Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center
If you have COPD, you may notice yourself struggling with everyday activities like walking and completing tasks around your home. At Little Neck Care Center, our pulmonary rehabilitation team is dedicated to helping you build fitness and better cope with your condition.
Each rehabilitation session looks different depending on how severe a patient’s COPD is and what their goals are. Together, our multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, therapists, and dietician’s coordinate sessions that target a patient’s physical and emotional well-being. Exercise is one of the key components of our program because of the implications it has for improving lung function and overall endurance. Some physical activities our specialists work on with patients include walking, stationary bicycling, and simple aerobics. Emotion management is offered as a means to learn about coping techniques, medications, and relaxation strategies that can help with managing the stress that often comes with having a chronic condition. Nutrition counseling is also included in the program to address weight management and diet issues associated with shortness of breath and fatigue. Throughout the rehabilitation process, our specialists make sure each patient is provided with the education they need to be in control of their condition.
Benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation for individuals with COPD include:
- Decrease in respiratory symptoms and complications
- Improvement in exercise tolerance
- Improvement in lung function
- Increase in physical activity
- Encouragement of self-management
- Reduction in hospitalizations
